How to Throw an Unforgettable Top Surgery Party

Are you throwing a top surgery party for yourself or a loved one? This is the ultimate guide to creating a memorable bye bye boobies party!

Deciding to move forward with top surgery is a huge cause for celebration. I helped my partner throw an amazing party a few weeks before they said ta-ta to the tatas. Now I’m sharing everything I learned so you can do the same!

In this post you’ll find ideas for top surgery gifts, top surgery party games, top surgery cake ideas, and learn what to say to someone getting top surgery.

After reading this post, you’ll have everything you need to plan and execute an event to remember!

The Ultimate Top Surgery Party Guide

Top Surgery Cake Ideas

There are so many clever cake ideas for celebrating this milestone. You can bake your cake at home using round pans like these to create some delicious bodacious mounds. You could also make cupcakes and have everyone decorate them as an activity!

My partner wanted a specific cake so they could serve it by cutting off boobs with a mini saw cake knife! Neither of us are bakers so we hired our favorite vegan bakery in Philly to make this custom cake and they did a fantastic job. Apparently the bakery toyed with filling the boobs with raspberry jam and I kind of wish they did! But that’s my sense of humor, I guess.

Top Surgery Party Games

I was surprised there was so little info on games! So we co-opted some party games from similar events: Pin the Nip, Boob Weight Raffle, and an Encouraging Note Station. You can instantly download and customize these game printables for $5 on my Etsy shop!

Pin the Nip on the Chest (a take on pin the tail on the donkey) was such a hit, it had everyone laughing and cheering! I used brown craft paper to sketch out a chest and torso. After cutting out each areola, I stuck a bit of sticky tack on the back of each and popped them in a ziploc until game time!

We created a Boob Weight Raffle (like a baby weight raffle) for our guests to guess the total weight of my partner’s chest after removal. I provided my Venmo QR code and asked everyone to pay $5 to enter and this made the process SO easy. When we found out the weight, I simply sent all the raffle money to the winner!

An encouraging note jar isn’t a game per se, but I saw this idea from a mastectomy party and loved it! Basically you set out paper, pens, and a jar and ask attendees to write an encouraging note for post-surgery. I’m so glad I threw this together last minute! My parter read these notes during the most challenging days of their recovery and they were so special.

Top Surgery Party Decorations

As far as decorations go, you have two routes: everything boobies OR everything boobies + medical equipment. Your sense of humor will guide your choice here! You can find lots of decor on Etsy too. Just make sure to check with the person of honor so they are comfortable with the decorations!

Decorations aren’t a must but they are a fun touch!

Top Surgery Gifts

Gifts at a top surgery party? Heck yes!! People always want to bring something, so you might as well give them some directions. The gifts you ask for will depend on what you need. My partner didn’t have any cozy flannels for recovery, so we asked everyone to bring one flannel shirt and it worked out so well!

Having a basket full of all of the essentials was one of the smartest recovery ideas we had. Everything my partner needed was in reach and I didn’t have to run around the house looking for the Tylenol. So a top surgery gift basket with a nice sturdy container would be a great idea!

Some other great gift ideas:

Food delivery gift cards
Body wipes
Ice Packs
A cozy blanket
A wedge pillow
A themed card
Back scratcher
Medical adhesive remover

What to say to someone getting top surgery

If this is your first time celebrating someone getting top surgery, you might not know what to say. The big thing to remember is that your loved one needs nothing but support and encouragement. You can also buy them a specific top surgery card with a sweet message inside. Here are some things to say:

I’m so excited for you as you take this step towards your authentic self

I’m so proud of you for making this decision

I’m here for you

Please let me know how I can support you! I can bring you food, go grocery shopping, come by for a walk, etc.

This is the right decision for you, and you’re going to look amazing.

Lorddd I hope I have enough Broad City lovers to get that reference 🙏🏼 June is going by so fast and I’m trying to collect all these memories in hopes of slowing it down. The world feels heavy but there are pockets of light if you know where to look ✨ Better yet, be a light in someone’s day if you can. Amid the horrors there are so many opportunities for humanity, kindness and love.

June is lipedema awareness month, so here I am spreading awareness! I was diagnosed with lipedema a few years ago and coming to terms with a life-long progressive condition was a full grieving process.

Things have gotten better since I had my first lipedema surgery last year, both mentally and physically! But it’s just a fact of life that 1-2 hours of my day are dedicated to ongoing maintence to keep my surgery results for as long as possible.

Sometimes it feels like lipedema steals time and energy away from things that matter. But I have to remind myself that my wellbeing is what matters most of all!

How are you prioritizing your wellbeing today? 💞

I hope someday soon my mental image of myself matches the reality. Practices like this are really helpful. Self portraits are a fabulous way to get to know your physical self and back when ig was more photo-focused, I did A LOT of them. Time to bring them back, I’d say 📸

Love you all and hope you can find even a sliver of body peace today 🫶🏻

Happy birthday to my favorite person @movewithprid Happy birthday to my favorite person @movewithpride 😍🐢✈️🍜 Mon is one of most compassionate and genuine people you’ll ever meet and sees the best in everyone. They love a sports underdog story and will cry every time. They keep going even through the toughest circumstances, and never lets that harden them. They put themselves out there to be the visibility they never had, both in work and in their personal life. Mon is amazing and deserves all the best wishes today as they turn 37!! 🥳🎂🎁

There’s a lot to love about Mon but what I’ve appreciated the most this past year is the growth they’ve done in solidifying their sense of self, knowing what they deserve, and acting in ways that protect their peace and honor their heart 🫶🏻 It’s a gift to witness and I’m endlessly proud of them!

Mon gives SO much to others so let’s give back to them today 💕 Comment with a fave memory of Mon or something you admire about them ✨
“How was your trip?!” We’ve gotten that qu “How was your trip?!”

We’ve gotten that question a lot since we returned from Hawai’i and it is impossible to answer in only a few words!

This trip engaged us spiritually, physically, emotionally, and intellectually. We learned more than we ever dreamed from native Hawaiians, most who usually would never engage with a group of tourists. It was an act of trust for them to share their knowledge and experience with us and we held that space with respect and divinity.

We also immersed ourselves in the 'āina, the land, through weeding taro fields in the pouring rain and doing reef conservation work. This was healing in its own special way and has inspired us to be in nature more often.

Our biggest takeaway (and the cute magnet we brought home, as our tradition) is to live aloha. Aloha is known by most as a hello/goodbye but it is so much more than that. To live aloha is to embody love, peace, compassion and respect. It means living in harmony with the people and land around you with mercy, sympathy, grace and kindness. If everyone lived aloha, our world would be a much better place.

I’m sure we’ll have more thoughts to share as we process this tremendous trip! But huge thanks to @doctorkiona @reroottravel and all of the guides and kumus who trusted us to share what we learned 🤙🏻 Our lives are forever changed.
